Mumbai Police has issued a preventive order for property owners in the city who are willing to rent out their premises.
The order requires landlords/owners/persons dealing in the property business to furnish the particulars of their tenants online on the citizen portal of Mumbai Police’s official website, www.mumbaipolice.gov.in. This applies to any house/property falling under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police Commissioner, which has been let/sub-let/rented out to any person.
If the tenant is a foreigner, the owner and the foreigner both have to furnish the name, nationality, passport details, visa details, registration place, and reason for stay in the city. The order comes into force on 8th March 2023 and is effective for a period of 60 days until 6th May 2023.
The order has been issued by Vishal Thakur, DCP, Operations, Mumbai Police, and any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
According to an official, “It is a preventive order which is issued by the Mumbai Police at regular intervals.” This step has been taken to ensure that the terroristanti-social elements in the guise of tenants do not cause subversive activities, riots, affray, etc. Immediate action is necessary for the prevention of such incidents.
